by combining an image, word, and phrase, a poster was made in an exercise to explore associtation through posters. the common thread between all posters was the author of the phrases (the band shinedown) and the color scheme. the message of the poster series was to capture a dark atmosphere, which was a departure from other previous works.
the theme for the 2010 phoenix design week was "forward". i took this as an opportunity to exercise my ability to perceieve the poster in 3d, to move the poster forward in depth and not just a static direction. the poster is a working anaglyph, which is how 3d movies were first made possible.
with the given theme of "mad world", i wanted to express a downward sprial on the poster- but also trying to achiecve this without the use of 3d. the final result showcases all of the graduating students and associated faculty.
a freelance piece that was submitted to a fundraiser for arizona state university, i wanted to keep the imagery light-hearted and friendly. but i also wanted to have the poster to display good design practices.
told to design an infographic that described how to complete a given process without the use of words, i wanted to work on something somewhat complex and try to make it easily discernable. also by using the original instructions, it was a visual improvement which also improved the clarity of how the process was to be completed.
whether a poster, a handout, or an infographic- each has to be approached with the same general mindset; to communicate the information/content clearly and effectively. if the content is arranged and displayed in a way that does not make sense to the viewer, then the piece will more than likely end up in the trash rather than framed on a wall or kept in the user's hands.
